Vashon Island offers solitude and beautiful coastal scenery and it offers the bonus of not being as touristy as the San Juan Islands. Vashon Island is only a 25-minute ferry ride from downtown Seattle.
Coming & going
Washington State Ferries (tel (206) 464 6400 or 800 843 3779; website www.wsdot.wa.gov/ferries) sail frequently between Seattle and Vashon Island. The 25 minute trip costs $8.70.
