Known as the Keystone State because of its central location and common economic base among the original 13 colonies, Pennsylvania remains a crossroads between the Mid-Atlantic and Midwestern states and most travellers visiting the eastern half of the United States pass through here at some time or another.
Pennsylvania is a highly industrialised state that has several industrial cities like Allentown/Bethlehem and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in the west of the state; but of a much greater interest to travellers are the two big cities – Pittsburgh and Philadelphia – plus historic Gettysburg and the culturally unique Amish country in Lancaster County.
