Portland

Eating & Drinking

This is an great city for food lovers with more restaurants per capital than most other large North American cities. Although many restaurants are expensive there are some affordable places in southeast and northwest Portland and there are some good value street carts in the downtown area.

While Milwaukee may have a reputation for its big breweries, Portland is quickly becoming North America's micro brew capital. There are 28 micro breweries in Portland and the number jumps to 46 if you also count brew pubs. This gives Portland more breweries per capita than any other city in the United States. The Oregon Brewers Guild (website www.oregonbeer.org) produces a 40-page guide to Oregon's breweries. Naturally the quality of beer in Portland is superior to the average American brew.
