Coming & Going

AIR

Baltimore-Washington International Airport (BWI; tel (410) 859 7111; website www.bwiairport.com), 16km south of the city centre, has flights to most destinations in North America plus some trans-Atlantic flights.

It is easy to get into town with light rail, which connects the airport with downtown Baltimore. Another option is the MARC train (website www.mtamaryland.com/services/marc/) that runs from BWI airport to Baltimore's Penn station. The light rail costs $1.60 and the MARC train costs $4. Most travellers find the light rail the most useful option as it has more stops in the city centre.

BUS

Greyhound (tel (410) 752 1393; website www.greyhound.com) buses stop at the bus terminal at 2110 Haines Street, Baltimore about 2.5km southwest of the city centre. Bus 27 runs between the bus terminal and the Inner Harbor.

Baltimore is also served by Chinatown buses, which are a cheap way to get to New York City. AA Bus, Eastern, MVP and Todays buses stop at the Baltimore Travel Plaza (5501 Odonnell Street, Baltimore) off I-96 in southeastern Baltimore accessible by bus 20.

Amtrak (website www.amtrak.com) trains to Washington DC, Philadelphia, New York City and Boston stop at Penn Station (1500 N Charles Street), north of downtown Baltimore. The light rail and buse routes 3 and 11 connect Penn Station with the city centre.

Baltimore's Penn Station is also used by MARC (website www.mtamaryland.com/services/marc/) suburban trains, which run as far south as Washington DC. MARC is the cheapest ($7 one-way) and easiest way to travel between Baltimore and Washington DC but it only runs on weekdays.

Camden Yards Station, south the the city centre, also has MARC trains to Washington DC. Camden Yards is connected to central Baltimore by the light rail.
