Maryland's historic seaside capital makes a good day trip from either Baltimore or Washington DC. The city is home to the Naval Academy and with over 2500 boats docked here it is also a popular spot for yachties. Most visitors come to Annapolis to see the city's many historic 18th century houses near the waterfront. Annapolis has played an important role in American history and it was briefly the capital of the United States between November 1783 and June 1784.

Greyhound coaches stop at 308 Chinquapin Round Road and connect Annapolis with Baltimore and Washington DC. Annapolis Transit route C-60 runs between Annapolis and BWI airport.
Annapolis Transit runs local bus services in Annapolis. Travel is free in the city’s Free Fare Zone between Compromise Street and Westgate Circle and beyond this area the standard one-way fare is $1 and a one day pass costs $2.50.
The compact campus of the United States Naval Academy, known as the Yard, is classed as a National Historic Landmark and welcomes visitors to the Armel-Leftwich Visitor Center, at the bottom of King George Street. Photo ID required to enter the Yard.
