Yosemite National Park
California’s most famous national park is a beautiful wilderness area made famous by the classic photography of Ansel Adams.
Entry to Yosemite costs $20 per car and most facilities are in the 11km-long Yosemite Valley; particularly in Yosemite Village, which you’ll find the visitors’ centre, grocery store, museum and other services.
The main attractions in Yosemite Valley are the 739m-high Yosemite Falls (North America’s highest) and Mirror Lake. Spectacular views of the valley can be had at Glacier Point and Tunnel View.
Tuloumne Meadows – 88.5km from Yosemite Valley – is the other main area in the park. Noted for its open meadows and pristine lakes, Tuolumne Meadows provides a stark contrast to the more heavily-visited Yosemite Valley.
The national park is home to over 1200km of hiking trails including the popular John Muit and Mist Trails and the hike to Half Dome.
