Carmel-by-the-Sea

This lovely little town just south of Monterey is a popular getaway for the rich and famous is has been home to many famous residents including Ansel Adams, Brad Pitt, Jennifer Aniston, Robert Louis Stevenson and Rupert Murdoch. In 1986 the city famously elected Clint Eastwood as mayor.

There is no budget accommodation here but Carmel is an easy daytrip from Monterrey.

Monterey-Salinas Transit (MST; tel (831) 899 2555) buses 4 and 5 run between Monterey and Carmel.
